TWDB approves the 2024 State Flood Plan
08/15/2024

August 15, 2024

The Texas Water Development Board has adopted the 2024 State Flood Plan which will provide the first-ever comprehensive statewide assessment of flood risk and solutions to mitigate that risk and save as many Texas residents lives and properties as possible.

This state flood plan is the result of historic planning and data collection efforts from our flood planning groups, from which our Region 15 pertains to the Lower Rio Grande Regional Flood Planning Group.

The first ever Texas’ state flood plan will be delivered on September 1st of 2024 to the Texas Legislature, and it represents Texas’ first attempt to perform comprehensive planning to reduce the risk and impact of flooding and take a broad look at flood hazards across the state.

You can view the 2024 State Flood Plan and supplemental documents on TWDB’s official website as well as an Interactive State Flood Plan Viewer generated as a complement to Texas’ inaugural 2024 State Flood Plan which allows stakeholders to view and download extensive datasets generated by the statewide flood planning program, including flood risk and recommended flood risk reduction solutions.

We would like to express our most sincere gratitude to all the committee members of our Region 15 Lower Rio Grande Regional Flood Planning Group for all their efforts in making this 2024 State Flood Plan possible.
