    Overview
    Hidalgo County Drainage District No. 1 approved an order to hold a bond election on November 6, 2012 for the issuance of $184 million to upgrade the drainage system. This amount represents a portion of the estimated $600 million needed to address all countywide drainage challenges.
    
    The bond election includes the Master Plan Update of 22 specific improvements and 3 General Improvements at a cost of $84 million. The three General Improvements Projects include $15 million for rural drainage development, $3 million for Weir System Rehabilitation Project and $10 Million for System Acquisition. The additional $100 million is for the construction costs of an independent segment of the Raymondville Drain Project.
    
    Rural Drainage Development Program was distributed equally among the four (4) precincts. The Program allowed for the development of studies, plans, and construction of several projects throughout the District. The Weir System Rehabilitation Project has been invested in several weirs that required improvements throughout our system. The System Acquisition Program allows for the purchase of several county built facilities to be further developed and maintained by HCDD No. 1.
