Hidalgo County is inviting public comments on the proposed Palmview Lateral Extension Project, which aims to improve drainage and mitigate flooding in the region. The project is funded through the 2018 and 2019 South Texas Floods CDBG-DR Grants and will involve the expansion of the existing Palmview Lateral drainage system.

Project Highlights:

• Phase I: Construction of two detention ponds (5.22 acres and 1.6 acres) and widening 6,800 linear feet of an existing ditch to enhance stormwater retention and reduce flooding.
• Phase II: Installation of four new culvert crossings to improve water flow and drainage efficiency.
• The project is located between Abram Road and Minnesota Road in Hidalgo County.
• Approximately 5.47 acres of wetlands may be impacted, prompting an environmental assessment.

In accordance with federal regulations, Hidalgo County is seeking public input regarding the project’s environmental impact, potential alternatives, and mitigation strategies.
