Hidalgo County officials are moving forward with plans to develop a $75 million water treatment plant following the award of a major state grant.
The Texas Water Development Board has approved a $15 million grant to support the project. In addition, Hidalgo County Drainage District No. 1 officials report that approximately $30 million in additional funding has already been secured.
The proposed facility is planned for a site near FM 2812 in the Edinburg area and is expected to produce up to 5 million gallons of water per day.
